Developed by Bandisoft, Bandicam is a screen recording program that is especially geared towards recording gaming videos. It is a favorite among YouTubers owning gaming channels as it supports recoding of various 2D and 3D games including WOW, StarCraft, Minecraft, and RuneScape to name just a few. The program can be used to record and upload a variety of playthroughs, walkthroughs, game plays, and Let’s Plays. Bandicam also supports internet streaming websites such as iTunes and BBC among others. It’s a nifty tool for quickly recording and uploading your videos.
The free version of Bandicam records for up to 10 minutes. To extend the limit, users can purchase a registered version for about $30 which offers unlimited recording time and no watermark. Bandicam compresses its videos during recording which is why the video outputs are very small. However because of compression, the video loses its quality, which is a downside of compression.
- Intuitive and easy to use
- Less lag when recording screencasts
- Quick screen recording and video uploading tool
- 10 minutes recording limit in the free version
- Low quality videos due to compression
- No video editing features; simply record and upload software

As a developer, I regularly have to report to my clients regarding the progress of my work. That means that I have to record any progress that I made on my computer screen. Back then, the only option I had was to hit the Print Screen shortcut button on my laptop and take static images. But with the advent of video screenshots, I am now able to create small video snippets of my work and send these to the stakeholders. I have a couple of software that already helps me do this but I recently came across a new application that specializes in recording DirectX and OpenGL graphical user interfaces. This software is Bandicam.
Bandicam is a screenshot video recording software that works with DirectX/OpenGL interfaces. The usual applications that use the DirectX/OpenGL formats are PC video games. This means that Bandicam is especially useful for those who want to record their video games on their PCs. Bandicam also allows users to upload and post their video shots to YouTube and other video sharing sites. I downloaded the program and gave it a try.
Bandicam’s user interface is pretty easy to use and straightforward. All you need to do is open the game that you’re playing and simultaneously have Bandicam open as well. There are several tabs to work on and you can specify the hot key that you can use to start and stop the video recording process. Other settings can be specified as well, including audio and video options.
Used this software for several days and it is quite useful – especially for gamers. Overall, gamers will truly find this software practical when they need to share their triumphs on video sharing sites such as YouTube.
- Very easy to use and intuitive process flow
- Record your full screen or just a part of it
- Get the full version – trial version will give you only 10 minutes recording plus a bonus watermark
