By Sam James

On Thursday, September 4, 2014

C++ is not an easy programming language to work with. It is fun and challenging both at the same time, but difficult. Thanks to Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2, the task is somehow easier to manage. It has predefined templates, a simple layout, user-friendly interface, debugger, and of course, the syntax editor. All of which, give the compiler optimum performance. Its interface and layout has been improved with added function buttons and modernized icons. It enables users to install add-on libraries, too. Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2 is compatible with compilers based on GCC. You can also integrate debugging with GDB on the open-source compiler and even customize the syntax editor based on your preferences. It also features a Class Browser and Tool Manager to help users manage their programs well. This includes a listing function, too. You can easily create DLLs, consoles, and static libraries, and print the codes you used to develop them. Dev-C++ 4.9.9.2 also features many other utilities including profiling and CV support.

Pros

  • Enables printing of developed codes
  • Features advanced program management tools

Cons

  • Mostly focused on Windows-run software only

Considering that C++ is a challenging programming language to use, it helps that I discovered Dev-C++ and learned more about it. Its compatibility with GCC-based compilers enabled me to integrate debugging with GDB and customize my syntax editor based on my choices. To help me manage my programs, even though they are basic ones, Dev-C++ has a Tool Manager, Class Browser, and a listing function. I was also able to create DLLs, static libraries, and consoles easily. Dev-C++ supports printing codes, so I have a hard copy of the codes I authored. It also includes many capabilities for CV and profiling support. Truly, Dev-C++ made codes easier to manage. It has templates, a user-friendly layout, simple interface, syntax editor, and of course, the debugger. All these, enabled Dev-C++ to perform at its best. Improvements have been applied to its interface and layout. Function buttons were added and modernized icons replaced the old ones. Ad-on libraries are now allowable to be installed by its users, too.

Pros

  • Includes support for project management
  • Layout and interface was improved

Cons

  • Will run on Windows OS only

Dev-C++ is a useful tool with the complete features of integrated Development Environment for the C++ programming language. I've been using Dev-C++ since 2011, and I really love the language of this application. However, like the other new programmers, I also didn't want to spend money for some expensive compiler tool. This tool was ideally made for some beginners and advanced programmers out there. If you start learning the programming just the way I did, learning the console programming first. After that, you graduate with programming in Windows. Once you have learned those applications, I must tell you that you need to try this excellent tool called the Dev-C++. This open source tool consists with lots of essential features, but most of these features are only for basic programming needs and not for advanced programming. The interface is pretty simple and quite user-friendly, with lots of useful options in plain sight and a good workspace. All in all, Dev-C++ can provide all the necessary tools, and it also has a decent set of useful features to help all the users to do their work easily. This tool is a tremendous help for all the beginner programmers all over the world since it is completely free

Pros

  • More interesting features included with text editor
  • It runs fast even in a low specs PC
